Apple Card sync

Apple Card works differently from every other account in SageFin, and most confusion about it comes from that difference rather than from something being broken. This page explains what is actually happening and what to do when it looks wrong.

Your Apple Card data never leaves your phone on the way in

Apple does not offer a way for a server to read Apple Card. The data is available only through FinanceKit, which runs on the device, and only to an app you have granted access to on that specific iPhone.

So the SageFin iPhone app reads your balance and transactions on the phone and sends them to your household. Nothing on our side can reach the card directly, and the web app cannot start that read.

Connecting it

On your iPhone, go to Accounts, tap Add account, and choose Apple Card. That opens the Connect Apple Wallet screen; tap Continue.

It has to be the phone. There is no Apple Card option in the web app, for the reason above.

Tap "Select Accounts…" when iOS asks

The system prompt's buttons are Select Accounts… and Don't Allow. Select Accounts is the one that grants access — it is not a second step you can skip.

Then choose which accounts to share

Pick the accounts you want and confirm. SageFin reads them on the device and creates the Apple Card account for you — you do not need to add it by hand first.

If you tapped "Don't Allow"

iOS only asks once. Tapping Continue again will appear to do nothing, because the system will not show the prompt a second time after a refusal. This is iOS behavior and not something SageFin can override.

Grant access in system settings instead: open Settings → Privacy & Security → Wallet on your iPhone, tap SageFin, and enable the accounts you want to share. The Connect Apple Wallet screen has an Open Settings button that takes you there, and a Check again button for when you come back.

If it says "No Accounts Found"

Nothing was refused. That message means Wallet has no account eligible to share on that device — you will see it on a Simulator, or on an iPhone with no Apple Card set up in Wallet. You can try again at any time.

If you get a new iPhone

Access is granted to SageFin on a specific iPhone, so a new phone does not inherit it — even from a backup restore, the accounts have to be shared again.

Connect Apple Wallet on the new phone as above. If SageFin already appears under Settings → Privacy & Security → Wallet, tap it and check the accounts and the time period are what you want.

Your existing Apple Card history in SageFin is not affected by any of this. It lives in your household, not on the phone.

Refreshing it later

Refreshing has to happen on the phone, for the same reason connecting does.

Open the Apple Card account in the iPhone app and choose Refresh. For every other account that asks our server to go and fetch; for this one it opens the Connect Apple Wallet screen, because the fetch happens on the device. Same word, same promise, different machinery — and once access is granted, the button on that screen reads Sync from Wallet rather than Continue.

The web app shows your Apple Card and its transactions, but cannot fetch them itself. What it can do is ask your iPhone to: open the Apple Card account, and in Connection status choose Ask iPhone to sync. The card then reads Sync requested, and SageFin sends a silent notification to the iPhone that connected it — that phone, not any phone signed in to your household. When iOS delivers it, SageFin syncs in the background and the card updates without the app being opened.

iOS decides whether to deliver it, and it will not if you have force-quit SageFin (swiped it away in the app switcher) or turned Background App Refresh off for it, under Settings → General → Background App Refresh. It also limits how many of these an app receives. Either way, the request is not lost: the card updates the next time SageFin is opened on that iPhone.

A request that nobody picks up within a day lapses, and the card says so rather than waiting forever. That happens if the phone is off, SageFin is not opened on it, or the card was connected from a phone you no longer have. You can ask again, or open SageFin on the phone yourself.

Why there is nothing to re-enter

Other connections have credentials SageFin holds and can replace when they expire. Apple Card does not: the authorization lives on your iPhone, granted by iOS, and SageFin stores no secret for it at all.

That is why the connection menu on an Apple Card account has no Update login settings, unlike every other connection's. There is no login of ours to update; the grant is changed in iOS, under Settings → Privacy & Security → Wallet.

It also means an Apple Card connection showing Connected with no stored credentials is normal rather than a sign of a half-finished setup.

Requirements

An iPhone running iOS 17.4 or later, with SageFin installed from TestFlight, and an Apple Card in Wallet. FinanceKit cannot run in the iOS Simulator, and there is no Apple sandbox for it — it works with your real card or not at all.

Still wrong?

The Connect Apple Wallet screen has a Diagnostics section at the bottom. It reports the authorization status and what Wallet returned, which distinguishes a prompt that never appeared from a grant that returned nothing. Include it when you write to [email protected].
